What is Cobbler?
Cobbler is a dessert that consists of a fruit filling (or savory filling, but not too commonly) poured into a large baking dish and covered with a layer of cake or cookie dough before baking. According to some Southern American recipes, the cobbler resembles a thick, deep bun with both a top and bottom crust. The cobbler is a prominent part of UK and US cuisine.
The origin of the name cobbler, recorded as far back since 1859, maybe related to the ancient word cobbler, meaning “wooden bowl,” or the term may be due to the cake’s top layer being as rough as a road with a ‘pebble’ stone, not a ‘smooth’ layer like other pastries.
